Give Your Skin a Boost With Dermabrasion

There are many factors that can take your skin from fresh looking and youthful to tired and dull. But don’t lose hope. Dermabrasion is a noninvasive cosmetic treatment that can give your skin a boost. This procedure can soften your fine lines, wrinkles, and reduce inflammation. It might be exactly what you've been looking for.

When you come into the office of Dr. Rimma Gelbert, in Brooklyn, New York, we’ll offer you several cosmetic procedures designed to revitalize your skin and bring back that glow.

Besides cleansers and moisturizers, there are habits that can negatively influence your skin. Do you smoke? Forget to wear sunscreen? We'll discuss what habits might be affecting you, as well as your entire skin regimen. We're here to ensure you're doing everything to take care of your skin and improve your overall health.

The benefits of dermabrasion

A poor diet, lack of sleep, too much stress and sun, and not enough water can do major damage to your skin. Dermabrasion can correct many conditions, including:

The treatment is not recommended if you currently have a skin infection or blood immune disorder. You should also avoid if you’ve recently had a facelift, have a history of scarring, or had an isotretinoin treatment for acne within the last year.

How dermabrasion works

Dermabrasion eliminates damaged skin by using a rotating device to remove the outer layer and resurface the skin. It’s almost like your skin is being sanded down but in a controlled manner. During the procedure, we'll numb your skin with a local anesthetic. You can opt for a sedative or general anesthesia if you'd like.

Immediately after the procedure, you may have pain, irritation, and some swelling. We’ll monitor your condition and prescribe medication if needed. A scab may form to heal and protect the new skin, but an ointment can prevent or reduce the scabbing. Don't worry, we'll instruct you on how to take care of your skin at home.

The skin that grows back is smoother and younger looking, but there’s a definite period of healing. Your skin will be most sensitive, and pink or red for the first few weeks. It’ll take about three months for the color to fade back to normal and for you to be 100% healed.

Men will want to skip shaving for a while, and women will want to wear non-allergenic makeup. Everyone should stay out of the sun and avoid activities that could injure the treated area. Once the healing is complete, your skin will look normal again, only much healthier and more vibrant.
